Take Holiday Guests to Brunch

When guests come to visit and sleep late, it’s nice to have a favorite spot to bring them for breakfast, no matter how late it’s become. But finding a special place to take them — where you can guarantee a delicious brunch and give everyone a wide variety of options — is not always easy.

Well, at the Southern tip of our Appalachian borders, we found the perfect place in Greenville, South Carolina. With the nearby Smoky Mountains looming over the horizon, the Stax Omega Diner sits just outside the Greenville Mall, with easy access to the city’s downtown activities and the highways and byways that make up the winding mountain trails.

Breakfast Any Time

In addition to a full lunch and dinner menu (for those who eschew the omelets and pancakes in favor of a burger, wrap, salad or steak), your guests will be thrilled with the breakfast options served all day. That’s right, they don’t shut off the waffle iron just because the clock strikes noon. The owners of Stax’s Omega understand that when you’ve got a hankering for ham and biscuits, that’s what you’ve got to have.

When you sit down, start off with fresh-squeezed juice or a cup of their premium ground coffee. Then prepare to do some reading — the menu literally is a book, full of tasty temptations. Bring a big appetite when you go to the Stax Omega Diner because there are so many options, you may not be able to settle on just one.

Omelets take up an entire page and there are three different kinds of eggs Benedict, including one over shredded Maryland crab. The family is known for their French toast selections that pair quite well with country ham or bacon. The waffles and pancakes come in a variety of flavors, and they go down nicely with a fresh glass of juice from the juice bar or with a custom-made smoothie. The crepes and blintzes are so good, you could even share them as a dessert after your main meal.

Your Family’s Welcome

The owners of the Stax Omega Diner love to see families come to their restaurant. George and Stanley Koumoustiotis come from a big Greek family, and chances are you’ll be served by, seated by or cooked for by one of the family members. Since 1988, the brothers have provided Greenville residents and visitors with a place that welcomes big families and their hearty appetites.

During the holidays, you better plan to stand in line while waiting your turn. If your party has six or more, they recommend that you call ahead, even though you still may wait. Fortunately, the line moves quickly, as the friendly wait staff bustles to keep everyone fed.

The Stax Omega Diner is not only a local favorite, but one that visitors put on their must-visit list year after year. When you go, consider bringing home some of the fresh pastries the Koumoustiotis family is always cooking up. Later, when you and your guests have moved on to your next Greenville activity, you’ll have one more sweet bite of Appalachian heaven.
